Remember these?

HERE are some photos from my files that may trigger a few memories.

THE architecturally-challenged  white building above was the public toilet at Cape Byron. The most easterly dunny in Australia and if there had been some inventive design back in the day, it would have had a magnificent view. A classic.

WHILE some of you may recognise some of the faces in this twilight cricket team, the point of the pix is to show the Marty Gooley Stand behind them at the Rec Ground.

I spent some pleasant Saturday mornings there reading the paper while my son played junior cricket. I have heard plenty of other stories about happenings in and below the stands, but I will leave it to others to tell them.

THE second photo below shows construction on the Stonehenge-like roundabout at the intersection of the old Pacific Highway and Ewingsdale Road. The original intersection was an accident black spot and getting on to the highway was a real chore before the roundabout was completed.

NO explanation for the next one. I loved going into that Post Office.

THE Byron Bay ambo station as it was.

A BEAUTIFUL bank building destroyed and a soulless structure put up in its place. Where were the heritage police?

THE Byron Bay Community Centre with its fabulous artworks. The essence of ‘Byron Bay’ was contained in that building. There was a big fight to save it, but in the end, the old building’s structural integrity was hugely challenged. While the new building is functional and much-needed, it does lack a certain vibe.
